ABSTRACT
Professor David Wilkinson’s talk will explore questions of origins, the Big Bang Theory, Extra-terrestrial life, and some aspects of Hawking’s work. He will extract ideas from his recent book published in August, “Science, Faith and SETI” (Oxford University Press). The book explores the new discoveries of Exo-planets and examines the scientific and theological arguments for extra-terrestrial life. This caters to general public interest in science and religion. He also contributes regularly to BBC’s radio 4 program.
BIOGRAPHY
Dr. David Wilkinson, FRAS, PhD (Astrophysics), PhD (Theology), MA, BSc, is a leading Scholar – an Astrophysicist and Theologian. He is the Principal of St. Johns College of Durham University. He is also Professor in the Department of Theology and Religion. One of his strengths is in conducting dialogues on science-related matters.

Professor Wilkinson’s research background is in theoretical astrophysics, where he gained a PhD in the study of star formation, the chemical evolution of galaxies and terrestrial mass extinctions. He is a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society. His current work at Durham University involves the relationship of faith to contemporary culture, from science to pop-culture. He also holds a PhD in Systematic Theology, in which he explored the future of the physical universe.

Professor Wilkinson’s recent books include Christian Eschatology and the Physical Universe (T&T Clark) and Science, Religion and SETI to be published in 2013 by OUP.

  1. This sounds really interesting, Siva. I’m however stuck in a timetabled lesson on 16 July. Is it any trouble if you can help me record Prof David? I’m genuinely interested. Or if Prof David is selling his “Science, faith and SETI” book after the talk, can you help me buy a copy? I’ll pick it up from you during the ICCS Lecture.
