Torturing research students

I have begun interrogating my research students over the initial drafts of their project write ups.

The torture really works both ways.

In the midst of interrogation today, Liyana needed a paper from the 90’s which my botany classmates had contributed too – I wangled it out of ‘thin air’ from a biblio project I did a decade ago, testament to the value of logically named URLs.

Liyana is conducting her research on fish-tail palms 24 years after my classmates scoured the island. It’s sweet to talk about the links like this, but I was too tired today to tell her that Amy Choong, whom she sees sitting next to me at the office, worked on that botanical survey of Pulau Ubin way back in 1990.

Perhaps during her next interrogation!
